Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun known popularly by his stage name Wizkid is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Wizkid began his career in music at a early age of 11. At 11, Wizkid released his first project, a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he formed with several of his church members. In the year 2009, he signed his first major deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). Wizkid’s rise to prominence began in 2010 with the release of his hit song “Holla at Your Boy.” The song would go on to appear on his debut album “Superstar (2011)” which was released less than a year later in 2011. Other popular songs from Wizkid on his debut include “Tease Me/Bad Guys”, “Don’t Dull”, “Love My Baby”, “Pakurumo” and “Oluwa Lo Ni”.

In February 2014, Wizkid became the first ever Nigerian musician to have more than 1 million followers on Twitter. Ayo, his self-titled second studio album, was released in September 2014. International Recognition and Drake Collaborations.

Although Wizkid had dominated the African music scene, he was yet to go global with his music. However, all this would change in 2016, with collaborations from Drake, Wizkid was set up for international success. The global hit, “One Dance”, reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. The months that followed would also see Wizkid collaborate on songs with several international artists and producers including Major Lazer, Dua Lipa, Wale and Justin Skye. In addition to his solo work, Wizkid has collaborated with several other artists and was featured on the hits “Girl” (with Bracket), “Fine Lady” (with Lynxxx), “Sexy Mama” (with Iyanya), “Slow Down” (with R2Bees), “The Matter” (with Maleek Berry), “Pull Over” (with KCee) and “Bad Girl” (with Jesse Jagz). Moreover, he became the first Afrobeats artist to appear in the 2018 Guinness World Records for his contribution to Drake’s hit song “One Dance”.

On 1 March 2017, Billboard magazine reported that Wizkid signed a multi-album deal with RCA Records. Wizkid was ranked 5th on Forbes and Channel O’s 2013 list of the Top 10 Richest/Bankable African Artists.

Last year Wizkid lit the internet on fire with his single “Fever” in which the music video featured sultry female singer Tiwa Savage. Last month, there was a leaked version of a collaboration between Wizkid and Ty Dolla $ign. The song which was titled “For The Crew” comes off studio sessions held by the two artists.
