The Coolidge Scholars Program

The Coolidge Scholarship is a four-year, fully-funded presidential scholarship that is granted every year. The scholarship pays for students’ tuition fees, accommodation, board, and other miscellaneous expenses. The Coolidge Scholarship helps students to study at any recognized American institution or university. This independent, need-absent program accepts scholarship applications from people with different backgrounds and academic disciplines.

 Each year, three to four high school students get to receive the scholarship award, while 100 of the best applicants are chosen to become Coolidge Senators. Coolidge senators receive educational awards. They’re also given paid invitations to yearly summits.

More importantly, The Coolidge scholarship is only available to juniors in high school. Seniors in high school are thus ineligible for this scholarship. The Coolidge Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont, hosts a finalist weekend where finalists get the chance to fly out for an interview with the Coolidge Scholars Finalist Jury.

Before applying for college, the sponsors will inform the Coolidge Scholarship recipients of their scholarship grant at the close of May of their junior year in High School.

Eligibility Criteria

Students who intend to receive the Coolidge scholarship must have the following prerequisites:

  1. Applicants for the Coolidge Scholarship must seek to enroll full-time as a first-time undergraduate in fall 2024 at a recognized U.S. college or university. Thus, junior high school students or their equivalent (homeschooled), are qualified to apply. The Coolidge Scholarship is also open to juniors in high school who take some classes at a nearby community college.

2  Applicants for the Coolidge Scholarship must be American citizens or authorized permanent residents.

  1. A student applying for the Coolidge Scholarship cannot be a close relative to a trustee or staff of the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation or the Coolidge Scholars Program.

Selection Criteria

Coolidge scholars must, above all, have an outstanding academic record. Those that stand a chance of being selected must have studied and completed the most competitive academic program available to them. Candidates must exhibit an unusual breadth of knowledge and intellectual zeal.

Students must have an interest and  Interest in public policy and an understanding of Coolidge’s study of public policy.  However, recipients of the award are not required to be students who intend to specialize in policymaking or governance.

Students must exhibit selflessness and humility. This is because leadership in the Coolidge tradition is characterized by humility. The Coolidge Scholarship program looks for young people who exhibit a sense of service and concern for the welfare of others. For Coolidge, People must support their neighbors and fellow citizens.

The Coolidge Scholarship is also looking for young people who are dedicated to positively improving the welfare of their communities. For the Coolidge Scholarship, Royal service matters more than temporary achievements. Typically speaking, rather than founding their groups, the Coolidge scholarship seeks to raise young people to have the biggest impact by joining already established initiatives.

Coolidge Scholarship Acceptance Rate

Although only a few students are awarded the Coolidge Scholarship every year, the program is only available to citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States. Without regard to color, gender, or background, the Scholarship is granted to high school juniors based on academic performance and is non-partisan.

Apply the following tips to be able to get the Coolidge Scholarship.

  • keep your grades high

Although there is no minimum GPA requirement for the scholarship, the academic record is one of the most important factors. To increase your chances of getting the scholarship, you should keep getting high  grades in high school junior classes

  •  Engage in extracurricular activities

It is good to take part in extracurricular activities since the scholarship program will want to evaluate your overall aptitude. First,  participate in activities that demonstrate your leadership abilities. Then write about those activities in your scholarship application form. 

  • Find a credible recommendation

Choose your referrals carefully because the Coolidge Scholarship will ask that you provide a list of referrals and recommendations. The person you should choose should be someone with whom you have close contact and whose testimonial will be beneficial to your application. For example, you can ask your teacher who has watched you grow, to be your referral.

The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation

The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation established the Coolidge scholarship program to honor the thirty-first president of the United States. John Coolidge, the president’s son, established the foundation in 1960. The organization provides several programs to assist and support students across the nation.
