KXNG CROOKED – Memorial Day Ft. Joell Ortiz. The SlaughterHouse collective may be defunct, but that does not stop the boys from coming together to put out new music. Two members of the now defunct group, KXNG CROOKED and Joell Ortiz are working up a new collaborative joint titled H.A.R.D. Title track available here. Today, Joell and CROOKED came through to drop off another song off the album, the emotional and thought provoking Memorial Day.
As explained in an official press release, the somber track pays homage to those who lost their lives in 2020, a particularly hard year for both parties. “November 11th, 2019 my friend and fellow Long Beach rapper Bad Azz died,” explains Crook. “2020 brought more death into my personal life when my Father passed and then my children’s grandmother. Cali mourned the deaths of Kobe, GG and all the passengers in that fatal helicopter crash. The globe mourns for those lost to the Coronavirus.”
On his own verse, Joell Ortiz reflects on the ones he’s lost. “RIP to my childhood friend and high school teammate Terrence “T-Black” Earlington and to my homie and 1/2 of our “Gorilla Glue” duo Frederick “Fred da Godson” Thomas,” he explains still maintaining a mournful and sombre tone.
Keep your eyes peeled because their full album will arrive on May 29th. But for now, check out the new song below.
