The songstress and 15-time Grammy winner is the first female host since Queen Latifah took on the role in 2005.
The announcement was made on the Grammys official Twitter page, with a post that read:
“IT’S OFFICIAL! 15-time GRAMMY winner @AliciaKeys will host the 61st #GRAMMYs, marking her first time as master of ceremonies for Music’s Biggest Night.”

In a statement issued, Keys gushed:
Posting in a video on her Instagram account, an excited Keys told followers she is eager to “give back” to the young women nominated.
“I know what it feels like to be on that stage, and I’m going to bring that vibe and energy. I’m so excited to be the master of ceremonies on the biggest night in music and celebrate the creativity, power and, magic.
I’m especially excited for all the incredible women nominated this year! It’s going “UP” on February 10!”
Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the Recording Academy, added:
“A dynamic artist with the rare combination of groundbreaking talent and passion for her craft, Alicia Keys is the perfect choice as host for our show.
Throughout her exciting career, I have watched her become a powerful force within the music industry and beyond.
As an artist who speaks to the power of music, we are thrilled to have her on board for what’s sure to be an unforgettable GRAMMY Awards.”
Longtime GRAMMY Awards Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich concluded:
“Alicia is one of those rare artists who meld true musical genius with heartfelt emotional lyrics to create a unique approach to everything she does. We have no doubt that she’ll bring all of that as she guides millions of GRAMMY viewers through what we believe will be a very special show in February.”
The news comes just weeks after Keys teased new music.
Could this be the platform that she seizes to kick-start her campaign? We sure hope so.
Keys’ first time in the prestigious role comes after comedian and Late Late Show host James Corden’s two-year stint as host.
Her last few album cycles haven’t yielded the response her tier of star has been accustomed to. But, it goes without saying that it doesn’t get bigger than the GRAMMYs, so here’s hoping she seizes the moment in a major way.
