The earliest tracks from PARTYNEXTDOOR are also some of his best, and COLOURS pairs two such releases: his second and third EPs of the same name.

Released at the end of 2014 and in mid-2017 respectively, the COLOURS EPs capture an essential period of the Canadian singer’s evolution but also his consistency.

PND’s career has been defined by his knack for navigating the line where shadowy R&B begins to fade into moody rap.

“GIRL FROM OAKLAND”, on the first half, captures his more atmospheric inclinations; reverb bathes the track in mystery as he waxes poetic about a love interest.

But between 2014 and 2017, his star would rise significantly. “Come and See Me”, from 2016’s PARTYNEXTDOOR 3, gave him his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, and a slew of high-profile guest spots and features thrust him into the bright lights.

Subsequently, on the second half of COLOURS, his voice is more forward, the commercial sensibilities more evident.

Songs like “FREAK IN YOU” and “RENDEZVOUS” sound well-suited to times even years after their initial release.
